Water Supply (Progress as at 30th Sep. 2016)

Providing safe drinking water facilities

Although many water springs originate from the mountains where plantation settlements are located, the plantation community has limited access to safe drinking water. Since the water supplies are unprotected, the plantation community is vulnerable to water-borne diseases such as diarrhea. Thus, most of the water supply projects are implemented in selected areas aiming for the vulnerable community. Nine uncompleted water supply projects commenced in 2015 were able to finish by the end of September 2016. The Ministry has already taken steps to commence 29 water supply projects in 2016, at a cost of Rs 10 Mn.
